Paul Klemperer started Manteca Beat to highlight classic American music from the 1940s-60s. Drawing from blues, jazz, Latin, R&B, and more, Manteca Beat takes audiences on a musical travelogue, appealing to all ages and demographics. Manteca means “grease” in Spanish and everyone knows you need a little grease to add flavor to your cooking.

The Manteca Beat Cabaret adds extra spice to the recipe, with female vocalists, dancers, costumes and an entertaining sense of theater. Paul Klemperer & Manteca Beat provide a great show for all occasions, from cocktail and dinner parties to formal events, concerts and dance parties.

Manteca Beat has a sound which is both familiar and fresh. Led by Paul Klemperer’s soulful sax, the group explores the best in classic R&B, blues and latin music, with a cool jazzy edge. Paul also adds original songs to the recipe.

“This band is about having fun. We start with what audiences know and then take them someplace new, so when they go home they feel like they have really been somewhere.”

Drawing on 35 years of playing experience, Paul Klemperer formed Manteca Beat to get back to musical roots. “I like to find the heart of a song. My saxophone style is influenced as much by the blues as jazz,” he explains. “To me, music is less about genre then about tone, energy and expression. That’s the focus of this band. That’s what makes this music special.”
